Hatton: eager to get back in the ring

I'll be damned if the last fight of Ricky Hatton's career is ending in a defeat with me flat on my back.

Ricky Hatton will move back down to light-welterweight for his next fight, which is likely to take place at the City of Manchester Stadium.

Hatton's last outing against Floyd Mayweather took place at welterweight and saw him stopped in the 10th round, the first defeat of his 44-fight professional career.

And the Manchester fighter is keen to move back down to a more 'natural' weight division as he looks to get back to winning ways.

"We've had offers from the United States, there's talk about the new Wembley and also the City of Manchester Stadium - which is probably looking favourite at the minute," Hatton told Sky Sports News.

"It's always been a dream of mine to fight there being a Manchester City fan.

"I'm hoping it (a deal) will be put to bed within the next week."

Challenge

On his defeat to Mayweather, Hatton added that he was not ashamed to have come up short against a man widely regarded as the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world.

"I moved up in weight and maybe that wasn't the wisest thing to do," he said.

"It's always been about the challenge for Ricky Hatton - not only did I move up, but I fought the best pound-for-pound fighter on the planet.

"In hindsight, there is lots of things I could have done better tactically.

"I don't think I was given a fair crack of the whip. The referee had a bad night - that's the politest way I can put it.

"It proved it wasn't my natural weight division so I'll move back down for my next fight."

Hatton has no retirement plans, adding: "I'll be damned if the last fight of Ricky Hatton's career is ending in a defeat with me flat on my back."
