Hatton and Mayweather: talks
Winning the next two fights I will re-establish myself and get the rematch. And hopefully Mayweather will come over here, because I always have to go over there.
Ricky Hatton
Quotes of the week
Ricky Hatton has revealed he has already opened talks for a rematch with Floyd Mayweather.
The Pretty Boy's promoters, Golden Boy, have hinted that he would be willing to come to England for a return fight next Spring.
Hatton has to overcome Juan Lazcano and then Paulie Malignaggi in New York first and had remained tight-lipped over the prospect of taking on Mayweather for a second time.
But he has confirmed that there have been initial discussions regarding a return in 2009, although he did suggest that he would prefer to meet Mayweather at light-welterweight.
"We've been talking to the camp already, but obviously it's all about me rebuilding and redeeming myself," he told Soccer AM.
"My next fight's against Juan Lazcano at the City of Manchester Stadium back down at my normal weight because I've gone up to welterweight twice and although I've won a world title at welterweight, at junior-welterweight I'm normally able to bully my opponents.
"Moving up a weight I give up that strength and edge, that strength I have and it's proved difficult.
"But I've got no fear of of going in for another crack at him again - with a different ref!"
Mayweather's representatives have suggested a rematch over here could attract a seven-figure crowd, which makes Wembley Stadium the likely venue.
But first Hatton has two more wishes to cross off his list: fighting at Manchester City and then topping the bill at Madison Square Garden.
"What I've got to do is win this fight. Paulie Malignaggi is on the undercard and he's the IBF champion so hppefully if I win this, I will get to fulfil another dream and fight at Madison Square Garden and top the bill.
"Winning those two fights I will re-establish myself and get the rematch. And hopefully Mayweather will come over here, because I always have to go over there!"
Before that though, Hatton has to get back on track by beating Lazcano, the Hispanic Causing Panic.
It will be his first fight on these shores since beating Kostya Tszyu almost three years ago, but the man himself is amazed at the support he still has.
"People must be sick of me saying for so many years as a big Man City fan, how it's my dream to top the bill at their ground and now my dream's come true," he said.
"But back to the fans situation, 55,000 fans? I had a feeling I'd probably sell out, but not in nine days! It's absolutely incredible.
"It's a dream. I went to the Benn-Eubank fight that was at Old Trafford, that was open air and there were 45,000. This is 10,000 more. I can't thank the fans enough."
Ricky Hatton believes boxing needs to see Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao square off.
Ex-heavyweight king Lennox Lewis talks exclusively to Ringside about some of boxing's burning issues.
Amir Khan is 1/4 favourite with Sky Bet to avenge his defeat to Lamont Peterson in Las Vegas on May 19.

People on this site are making it out that Hatton was outclassed the entire fight. Just because he was getting picked off for the last three rounds does not mean that the the fight was 'so one sided it was unbelievable'. Watch the fight again and you will see that for the first half of the fight it was even, with Hatton knocking Mayweather bach in the first round, landing with some good, solid left hands in the second and third, and clearly outworking Floyd in the fifth. Saying that i do feel that Floyd will win a rematch, albeit by points, but am hoping that Hatton has learnt from his mistakes and is working on them in his training camps. I feel that Hatton's low chances of victory will be increased if the fight is at light-welter or he has a tune-up against someone like Zab Judah at welter. That is all.

A return bout between Ricky Hatton and Floyd Mayweather, is plainly ridiculous, as much as we like to see an English boxer winning, particularly in the USA, Hatton was out-fought and out-thought by a boxer who was and is far too good for Hatton, this year or next year. The longer the fight went on and I watched it in a pub in Pattaya, the more embarrassing it became It was tantamount to pitting an amateur against a silky pro and lets forget these stupid comments that the referee influenced the outcome. Ricky has guts and determination for sure, but forget the rematch Ricky and focus on some easier pickings in the domestic arena.

I like Ricky Hatton, I really do, but anyone who thinks he can beat Mayweather is just in a dream world. How can you possibly think he can beat Mayweather when he didn't even land anything significant the entire fight? Face it, he is not in his class and he belongs at 140. He wouldn't touch Cotto or Margarito for that matter either. It was great having the first match because it was an American against a Brit, but what the heck is the sense of a rematch??? Mayweather obviously wants one because one, he knows he can beat him and two, there is a ton of money to be made.

I am a HUGE fan of Ricky Hatton and have been for the last probably 7 years. I just don't think he can beat Mayweather. He was playing with Ricky last time. Ricky did exactly what Mayweather said he would, he came in straight throwing bombs that were easilly blocked. Ricky is a very good boxer, he proved that against Ben Tackie - so why attempt to brawl Mayweather? I just don't see Ricky finding a way to beat Mayweather - sorry Ricky!!

I am always reading through these wall postings about this rematch and i think whats the point in a rematch. The 1st match was so one sided it was unbelievable. If you watch it properly Mayweather was cruising and when he needed to pick it up he did. Hatton is a good fighter but not on the same level as Mayweather. To be fair i am a little disappointed with hatton as he should be really fighting Witter. Its all good saying that he doesn't want to give Witter a big payday but thats just an excuse. If he had belief in his own ability he would not have witter talking about him like he is a spent force and would go out and prove to Witter and the rest of us that he still is the best at this weight. Really and truly Hatton needs to forget about Mayweather He's been there he took the beating now move on and give the public what they want to see Witter Vs Hatton this fight could be as good as the Benn Eubank fights back in the day. Witter has said he will take the lower cut of the Money to me thats sounds like a man who is confident that he will win and show everyone that he is the best. Hatton stop making excuses and let us see what i would say would be one of the fights of the year.

If the rematch comes off which I hope it does, Although I do not think it will be but if the fight is made at Light Welter Hatton will be victoriuos. But in order for Hatton to make that happen he needs to maintain his fighting weight in his younger days he may have got away with the weight fluctuations but age is a barrier he just cannot do this no more it he is serious about beating Mayweather. Up until and including the Tzyu fight Hatton was the fittest boxer on the planet. But in his fights since then the fitness levels have tailed off. Ricky stay at your fighting weight between fights and this will help you return you to your amazing fitness levels, do not have a ref called Joe anywhere near ther fight and try and make the fight at Light Welter and you can beat Mayweather no problem at all. The last fight Hatton's worst performance, Mayweather's best and at the 7 round stage is in my eyes the fight was more a less even. So why can't Hatton win.

well was really gutted to see ricky get knocked down not once but twice was sickening to watch but i honestly thought he could do it until that particular round, am never one to point the finger unless there is a valid reason and in this situation the ref didnt help matters and once again i think if there was a decent ref next time round letting each other box then i think hatton would have a better chance if mayweather came down to ricky's weight that is.

If the rematch comes off this is great news. Mayweather and Hatton are probably the best pound for pounders in the world (except for mighty Joe C) and to see them at it again is what we want. All great fighters have had rivals and rematches. Ben Eubank, Tyson Holyfield, Barrera Marales, so why not Hatton Mayweather. The last fight was hindered by Joe Cortez but thats no excuse for Ricky. I think the next fight will be a different affair. Ricky has never fought anyone twice, so now we could see if he is able to learn and adapt as all good fighters do.

Don't get me wrong I am a huge Hatton fan but lets be honest about it, he was outclassed by a great fighter who picked him off at ease!! he spent the fight walking in straight lines which made it to easy for mayweather to target him, all the ref done was stop the grappling which have become all to familiar in Rickys fights. maybe he might have a better chance at junior welterweight but i'm still not totally conviced, the heart tells me he can but the head says mayweather on points. For me he should stop dodging Junior Witter and fight him, its probably the best british fight out there and one that would re-establish him more than fighting someone Witter has already beaten!! as for fighting oscar, I think i'm right in saying Mayweather went up from welterweight to fight him?? In that case where would this fight be?? Hatton cant go up as he is simply not big enough and I cant see Oscar dropping that many divisions, to hard at his age......bare in mind golden boy had a lot of pounds on pretty boy when they fought also, Could our Ricky do hat?? Hatton has been a great British light welterweight but thats where he should stay, Ricky do whats there: fight Malignaggi, fight big mouth Witter, bring back the intensity to the ring (don't leave it in the gym), clear up the division again, if you can get Pretty boy at light welterweight and prove me wrong by driling him into the cavas, then get out enjoy a pint of the black stuff along with the darts. Good luck Ricky

Now dont get me wrong, im a big fan of Ricky Hatton but i cannot believe the disrespect he is showing to Junior Witter. He says that Witter is not even on his radar, so who does he fight? Juan Lazcano, a man clearly beaten by Vivian Harris, whom Witter demolished. Im glad he is getting to fight at his beloved City's ground but if that sold out in 9 days, this would have sold out in 2. Its the fight the public want, not Lazcano. Fair play, go to the Garden and fulfill another dream and take Malignaggi's IBF belt, but come back and hold a unification with Witter, the well deserved WBC champ , that would easily fill Wembley or maybe the O2. If Ricky is the "man of the people" he says he is, then he should give his British fans this fight. Forget Mayweather (for now)

I can't believe some people on this site still believe Hatton can beat Mayweather. Mayweather, on his worst day, would beat Hatton on his best day. This ref excuse has got to stop! Hatton, never once, and I'll say it again and again, never once came close to hurting Mayweather during that fight. The outcome of a rematch would not change and Mayweather knows this. Go over to England to knock out Hatton again, this time in his own country and get another 30 million paycheck. No one outside England wants to see this pathetic rematch, we all want Mayweather to step up and fight Miguel Cotto. Hatton is brilliant at 140 but lets be honest, he doesn't have a snowball chance in hell of dethroning "Money"anyone who thinks otherwise is just kidding themselves.

What is the point of a Rematch, if you know your boxing then you will know that Hatton will get ko'd again, maybe even earlier this time around, he aint even close to Mayweathers league.. If you watch the Callazo fight, he got beat in that but got the decision ""Somehow"".. Stick to light welter where you belong...........

I have followed Ricky Hatton throughout his careers. Fight on fight is loyal fans are always their and growing in numbers. I think the reason for this is that he comes a across as one of the lads you could go for a drink with etc. I wish him all the best of luck, but you make your own luck, and boy this bloke does (works hard, parties hard NICE GUINESS). See at the City Stadium, COME ON RICKY YOU CAN DO IT.

Ricky is a pure Legend. The man is down to earth, not like some of the bigheaded champs we've had in the past. I can't wait to see him get revenge on Mayweather, then clash with Oscar that'd be truely an awesome fight. Good Luck.
