Witter: Return vow

Defeated World boxing champion Junior Witter is ready to fight his way back to the top after his devastating loss to American Timothy Bradley.

The Bradford-born fighter, who trains out of Brendan Ingle's Sheffield gym, lost his WBC light-welterweight title to Bradley in Nottingham on 10th May on a split points decision.

But he believes he only performed at 70 per cent of his capability on the night and would relish fighting Bradley again in a re-match.

But if that does not happen, the 34-year-old insists he is ready to fight his way back into contention to be a world champion again.

Speaking for the first time since his defeat, Witter told the Sheffield Star: "The reality is that I performed at 70 per cent of my capability and Bradley fought the fight of his career. He took his chance and scored the knockdown which turned the fight around.

"I have been asked if there was a rematch clause and if I was looking past Bradley and focusing on Ricky Hatton and did I underestimate him?

Safety net

"I had the choice of adding a rematch clause but I've never believed in giving myself a safety net, so there was no clause.

"My promoter is working on a return fight with Bradley. If this doesn't happen I will fight my way back in to contention.

"I prepared 100 per cent for the fight. Unfortunately, I got it wrong on the night."

Sorry Junior in this fight you proved once and for all that your level is domestic/European and not world. Bradley is an average to good fighter who will come unstuck against Hatton or Malinagie if he ever faced them. I hope you get that re-match as it will be your only chance of ever getting a world title fight again - you have a style that isnt pleasing to watch and promoters on the world stage wouldnt naturally think of pitching you against world class fighters as it would not bring in the crowd.

I don't think Witter even deserves a rematch.
