Birmingham's Don Broadhurst claimed the vacant Commonwealth super-flyweight title with a comprehensive points victory over Isaac Quaye of Ghana.
In a low-key fight at the Aston Villa Leisure Centre, Broadhurst, in just his ninth professional outing, dominated throughout the contest against an unknown opponent who had not fought for almost two years.
Broadhurst, a fine amateur who had not previously been past six rounds, kept up a steady workrate and landed several clean right hands on Quaye while also working the body.
However, Broadhurst had only stopped one of his previous eight opponents and his lack of firepower was again in evidence as Quaye easily shook off his heaviest shots.
But the result was never in doubt, the judges handing the 24-year-old victory by scores of 120-108 twice and 119-09.
"I was a bit cautious and tried to pace myself a bit too much, but got the win and that's the main thing," he told Sky Sports.
"I've slipped under the radar a little bit but I was training on my own for a while there and went a bit stake.
"But I was only fighting at 40 percent then and now Richie Woodhall's in charge I'm starting to enjoy it again.
"Hopefully I'll be world champion by 2011."
Former British title challenger Matthew Macklin claimed his sixth victory in succession after gaining a points verdict over Liverpool's Geard Ajetovic.
Macklin lost to Jamie Moore in a light-middleweight title clash but is slowly re-building his career up at 160lbs under the tutelage of Richie Woodhall.
Serbian-born Ajetovic had lost his last two fights but proved a tricky customer for Macklin, who was caught several times by right hands, particularly in the fifth round.
However, Ajetovic could only box in short bursts and it was Macklin's come-forward style and relentless pressure that earned him a 97-94 verdict on the referee's card.
