Clinton Woods has been handed a fifth shot at the IBF light-heavyweight title after champion Chad Dawson relinquished the belt.

Dawson has fallen out with the IBF after they insisted he made a mandatory defence against the relatively unknown Tavoris Cloud.

Dawson, who beat Antonio Tarver to become world champion, had wanted to make a voluntary defence against Glen Johnson, but the IBF refused.

The American's decision to give up the belt means that Sheffield-born Woods will now fight for the vacant title against Cloud.

The 37-year-old Woods had won the IBF title at the fourth time of asking, beating Rico Hoye in 2005.

He made four successful defences - including one against Johnson - before he was outpointed by Tarver 13 months ago.

Woods, though, won his comeback fight against Elvir Muriqi in February to earn himself another shot at the title.

Dennis Hobson, who has promoted Woods throughout his career, said: "Hopefully Clinton will do the business this time whether it's here or in the States and he rightfully regains his title.

"We don't know where it's going to be yet, I spoke to Tavoris Cloud's people and we get on very well, but it is business and we will both be trying to get the best deal for our man."

Woods has won 42 of his 47 fights, while Cloud is unbeaten in his 19 professional fights, beating former WBO light-heavyweight champion Julio Cesar Gonzalez last time out.
