Elio Rojas was crowned WBC featherweight champion on Tuesday, with victory over Japan's Takahiro Aoh.

The New York-based Dominican boxer, ranked number one in the WBC, scored a resounding points triumph in the end.

The three judges scored it 116-113, 117-111, 118-110, all in favour of 26-year-old Rojas, stretching his record to 21 wins, including 13 KOs, against one defeat.

Roman Gonzalez of Nicaragua also claimed a unanimous points win over Japan's Katsunari Takayama to defend the WBA minimumweight title.

The 22-year-old champion was a 118-110 winner on all three judges scorecards, which means his unbeaten record now stands at 24 wins, including 20 KOs.

There was some joy for the host nation, though, as Japan's Hozumi Hasegawa knocked out American challenger Nestor Rocha to retain his WBC bantamweight title.

Hasegawa took just two minutes and 28 seconds of the contest to stop his opponent and make his ninth straight defence of the title he wrested from 14-time champion Veeraphol Nakhonluang of Thailand in April 2005.

He now holds a record of 27 wins, including 11 KOs, against two defeats, while Rocha suffered just the second defeat of his 23-fight career.
