Roy Jones is looking at using Wednesday's IBO cruiserweight fight with Danny Green as a springboard for his Las Vegas showdown with Bernard Hopkins in March.

The 40-year-old American, an eight-time world champion, is looking at creating boxing history by becoming the first boxer to hold titles in every division between middleweight and heavyweight.

Ahead of the fight, Jones said: "It's the only big weight division I haven't won a title in, and it is right there close within reach.

"I'll do it, get it done and put it on the resume. Then I will move on to Hopkins."

Regarded as one of the greatest pound-for-pound fighters of the modern era, Jones will be creating his own bit of history by fighting outside of America for the first time in his career.

His opponent, 36-year-old Green, a three-division world title holder, makes his first defence of the cruiserweight belt since winning a fifth-round TKO against Julio Cesar Dominguez back in Mississippi last August.

Jones last fought back on same card as Green's cruiserweight success when he successfully defeated Jeff Lacy in the 10th round.

Tough

"Danny's a strong guy, he's a very tough guy, he's going to put a lot of pressure on me," added Jones.

"He's going to try and wear me down because I'm 40 and he's 36, so he's going to think he can wear me down, but I'm ready for that."

Jones feels his agility will be the key to success in the upcoming fight.

"The foot and hand speed will be key to my victory. I can win it powerfully, I can win it boxing, I cam win it either way, I'm just a better fighter."

Green is being urged by Australian boxing pundits to take the fight the distance to the ageing Jones.

"I feel relaxed, I feel fresh, this preparation has been very, very hard, but it's also been very smart," Green said.

"In the past I've always trained too hard and obviously this is the biggest fight of anyone's career, it's the biggest guy out there, so I've got to make sure that I don't leave it in the gym."

Rod Wood says...

Having watched all the replays of both fighters during the past week it is obvious that Jones is far classier a boxer than Green but Danny, I believe,is a better fighter. He could easily knock Jones out in the first few rounds but as the fight goes on then Jones chances will rise accordingly. Go the Green Machine.

After seeing Jones's last outing against Jeff Lacy, I can only see one winner in this one......RJJ! He may be the older fighter, but he's still got great hand speed and a great defence. Green hasn't fought anyone even close to Jones's calibre and I think it will show.....he's well out of his depth, he's got a lot of heart and guts, but you're gonna need more than just that to beat Jones. Jones to win within the distance via stoppage!
