West Ham's Kevin Mitchell believes he is ready for a world title fight following his latest victory over Breidis Prescott.

That convincing points success earned the unbeaten 25-year-old the WBO Inter-Continental lightweight belt, and he is now the No 1 contender for the world belt.

Mitchell takes on Colombian Ignacio Mendoza at Wembley on Saturday night and he expects victory will earn him a world title shot later this year.

"If Amir Khan can get a world title fight two fights after a loss, and I'm unbeaten at 25 years of age, I'm more than ready for a world title fight," he told Sky Sports News.

WBA light-welterweight champion Khan has left Frank Warren's promotion team as he seeks exposure in America, but Mitchell insists he will show more loyalty to the man who has led him throughout his career so far.

"I've been with Frank for seven years now. One day I will be a multi-millionaire, I will want to go abroad and be a world champion and me and Frank will go together," he added.

"He guides people's career perfect, he does things right and I'm good friends with Frank."

I would like to see mitchell fight for a world title this year, but apart from his last fight he has'nt fought many creditable apponents. Not so long ago he was behind on all 3 scorecards before stopping carl johansson(who I believe is only a domestic level fighter). But again you could argue khan never fought decent fighters and when he did he was showed up (presscott) but his hand speed is phenominal! Mitchell am pretty sure thought could beat urango (IBF light welter champ who hatton beat) to get on world stage then take it from there....as for ricky hatton he has nothing else to prove, legend!!!

Mitchell more than deserves a crack at a world title. He beat the same guy who floored Khan and he is undefeated. I think Khan got his title shot fast tracked since he is such a well known figure in the sport but Mitchell has earned the right for a shot at the title.

i think kevin mitchel is more than ready to fight for a world title why not against mr Khan himself?? i think Khan would avoid Kevin Mitchell becouse he knows he would lose- i would like to see Kevin take on Devon Alexander good fight for him, can see him winning as well, then try a cheeky shot at Tim Bradley but that may be a little to far - as Tim Bradley is the best at that weight. Good Fight Mr Hatton v Tim Bradley anybody like to see that happen??

Kevin deserves his shot at a world title and has had to do things the way they should be done. A world title shot should be something thats merited due to beating anyone else in the rankings and not given to someone as a way of earning lots of money for all concerned. Thats not a dig at Amir, who i believe would beat Mitchell but a world title shot 2 fights after being knocked out in round 1 is not normal routine. I hope both can meet at some stage in the UK as it would be the best fight with 2 british fighters for some time.

Forget about Khan, Mitchell is the one that should have all the hype. As he showed against Prescott, he is by far a better and more polished boxer... 2010 will prove this.

Its nice to see that some boxers have some loyalty towards their promotions team. Kevin Mitchell needs to be commended on this. I really hope Mitchell goes on towards world honours, and knocks Amir Khan out, because sooner or later, they will have to meet. If Khan really wants to prove himself as the best boxer at his weight group. Face Kevin Mitchell, and then we can see what he is really made of.
