Frank Warren believes David Haye has taken the 'easy option' by fighting Audley Harrison for the money.

The WBA heavyweight champion is expected to announce a fight with Harrison on Tuesday after negotiations with the Klitschko brothers regarding a unification fell by the wayside.

Haye may have had few alternative opponents lined up and a domestic bout with the former Olympic gold medallist, who has been discredited countless times in the paid ranks, could still be a big earner.

However, promoter Warren - who used to work with Harrison - accused Haye of avoiding a clash with one of the Klitschkos.

"Haye's taken the easy option by fighting Harrison for the pay day and it's not what he said he was going to do," said the promoter.

Cashing in

"Without a doubt he's avoiding the Klitschkos. He signed a contract to fight one of them and didn't carry it through, then pulled out against the other one.

"The reason he's not fighting one of them is because he wouldn't do a straight 50-50 split.

"Haye said he would fight them both. It's no good saying you'll do these things and then don't because you're looking to cash in.

"I look at Haye and I ask why does he only fight twice a year? He should be making money and not being inactive."

And while Haye will enter the ring against Harrison a hot favourite, Warren believes the veteran has a puncher's chance.

"Monte Barrett wobbled Haye and then I fell asleep during the Nikolai Valuev fight," he added. "If he gets hit on the chin then Haye will be knocked out and Harrison has that chance.

Weakness

"Haye is streets above Harrison but he has a huge weakness - if gets hit on the whiskers he'll go."

And Warren believes two heavyweights under his promotion - Derek Chisora and Sam Sexton - would be happy to take on Haye or the Klitschkos despite being in the early stages of their career.

"If Harrison can get a crack at the world title, it won't be a problem for me to deliver a shot to the winner of this fight," he said of the pair, who take each other on on Warren's 'Magnificent Seven' bill on September 18.

"Both of these fighters are better than Harrison. Look at where they are after 13 fights and look at what Harrison had done at the same stage.

"These two are decent heavyweights and can make their mark on the world scene. Even the loser could still pull through.

"Either of these guys would fight the Klitschkos, they won't duck anyone. They're fighters."

Michael Power says...

David Haye is the Floyd Mayweather of Heavyweight boxing. He looks for a good payday and ducks from fighting anyone on a similar level to him in the fear of being defeated. Come on Haye man up and fight one of the Klitschko''s soon.

Tommy Toddington says...

Well said Frank ; However, wise choice David not fighting the Klitchkos. Realistically, either one of them would KO Haye.

Matt Hirst says...

It''s another case of boxers being more about being businessmen than fighters. Give the public what they want which is world champions fighting each other, Is David Haye going to fight the winner of Sexton and Chisora? I think Haye is the best heavyweight and can unifiy the division but I fell all he wants is take the easy option. He will never be a legend but will have a healthy bank balance!!

Liam Crichlow says...

wow!! some very naive kids on here....hyping up Lennox! where was he when tyson was in prime? running!!! and ducking holyfield too!! fighting these guys when they done. Haye would have knocked out lewis. and as for harrison. i cant even be botherd to mention that waste man!

Michael Caldwell says...

Nobody wants to see this fight, Haye v Klitschko, Mayweather v Paquiaou. These are the sort of fights fans want, its all money now. The fans are the ones suffering!

Adam Drewery says...

I think Frank Warren is and always will be a negative self-promotion artist. He is only using Haye''s name to promote his own two fighters. Haye shuold be fighting a Klitschko but he deserves a pay day, and there is not one true boxing fan that isn''t going to watch this fight!! He will ruin Harrison, and beat both Klitschkos next year to unify the division and then retire. Go Dave!!

Derek Stubberfield says...

I said it before, David Haye is a Paper champion! Audley is a freak and a joke and this fight is an insult to every brit boxing fan. Fraudley is an old never was and Haye is a chicken. Both Klitckos will pummel haye and he knows it. let him enjoy his paper belt and when Haye retires we''ll remember our paper champ as the coward he is.

Anthony Adams says...

Seriously going off David Haye now, Audley Harrison Really? I think it would be funny to see him win, Harrison only needs one good punch and Haye will drop! I''m looking forward to going to Birmingham and seeing Sam Sexton & Del Boy Chisora, two heavyweights with prospects. Audley ''Awlful'' Harrison v David ''Ducker'' Haye, what a joke!

Chris Hickey says...

I think Frank Warren is partially correct with what he is saying, but I sense a bit of bitterness here. Frank Warren would jump at the chance to promote Haye, what promoter wouldnt?! He''s money making machine, I think Klitschko should agree to 50/50, what other figther will generate money like Haye? I don''t think fighting Audley would be a poor option and nothing more than a money making fight. There are so many more capable Heavyweights that Haye could fight and I hope he finds one instead of fighting this bum!

Harvey Foxall says...

David Haye is a good fighter but he has to start being like Lennox Lewis. He has to fight one or both of the Klitschkos to get any respect from the British people. Fighting Harrison is a step back in his boxing career,i know in his day Lennox would have fought Haye and Harrison one after the other and beaten them both easily.

Gilly Dean says...

Haye should fight Wladimir.

Posted 22:14 6th September 2010

Paul Johnson says...

To be honest Frank Warren is spot on with his comments. Haye should have lined up one of the Klitschko''s by now, they even came out and said a deal could be made with Sauerland promotions and Hayemaker promotions so why wasn''t the fight made!? If someone has a clearer insight into why Haye hasn''t taken steps towards fighting one of the brothers then please explain to us the situation because as it currently stands it looking like a classic case of ducking!.

Posted 21:26 6th September 2010

Joe Mitchell says...

I understand Haye opponent choice, although I think he will fight a Klitschkos eventually, I think he has been fighting high risk low reward for his whole career and has got the chance to get a low risk high reward, you cant blame him, he just got his big break on major tv last year or so.

Posted 18:46 6th September 2010

Phil Barnes says...

I agree with Frank Warren here too, I thought Haye was really going to spice up the heavyweight class but he hasn''t delivered his promise! I am a massive Haye fan and although this fight is just a pay day to him I''ll still watch just to see someone knock seven bells out of Fraudley!!

Posted 18:19 6th September 2010

Mark Mackenzie says...

Warren is jumping on the Haye bandwagon trying to promote his own 2 heavyweights, the guy is jealous he has no one of Haye''s stature in his ranks. As for the "he only fights twice a year" what other champion fights more than that? As for taking the easy option............the Klitchkos are streets ahead of anyone in that department.........they have fought nobodies of late!!

Posted 18:13 6th September 2010

Chris Markham says...

Why is david haye ducking the klitschko bros the fans want to see the fight and he has the power to do away with both of them , its such a waste of talent . frank warren is right haye simply doesnt fight enough and is starting to frustrate the fans .

Posted 18:06 6th September 2010

Derek Chisora says...

Personally agree with Frank Warren. Haye is ducking the Klitchkos. I hope Carl Froch would move up to the heavyweight division. I think he can wipe it out any day, even in the weight he is in. Go the Cobra!!

Posted 16:48 6th September 2010

Mark Adkins says...

Audley Harrison has been shown to be a poor heavyweight time and time again. Clearly (if he takes this match) David Haye is taking this fight for an easy ride and a quick few quid. I would love to see Audley retired once and for all, don''t get me wrong but I would much rather see David Haye making good on the many claims he has made in the press. David, if you don''t, you will always be remembered for all the wrong reasons.

Ben Sawyer says...

i always find Frank Warren a great laugh! has anyone ever noticed how if they do not fight from his camp or left his camp then he only ever says negative things about them

Posted 16:08 6th September 2010

Neil Durbidge says...

I am a massive fan of David Haye, but have to agree on this one! I understand his reasons its not a 50/50 split if they have a deal which they are not prepared to negotiate away from so its 50/50 of what they are offering! But he started the trash talking and all this I want to be a legend stuff and now he wont fight them when they offer him a fight! THEY are the biggest name(s) in Heavy weight boxing and the real champions so he is basically a challenger and should realise he is actually getting a great deal what ever they offer! Turning into another of our primadona boxers who talk the talk but cant dance when it comes to the crunch! I think if he did have the balls to fight them he''d have a great chance especially against Vladimir as he is very chinny himself, but he would have to be prepared to fight and get hit! so not going to happen!
