Kinnear: Shock appointment
Newcastle United have shocked the football fraternity with the appointment of Joe Kinnear on an interim basis.
Terry Venables rejected the chance to take the St James' Park reins in a similar arrangement but Newcastle have moved quickly to fill the void left by Kevin Keegan's departure.
Kinnear has been out of football since being sacked as Nottingham Forest manager in 2004.
Previously he managed Luton Town and Wimbledon.
Have your say on what's going on in the North East. How will Newcastle fans respond to the news?
Is Kinnear the man to bring the glory days back to St James' Park?

Would people stop having a go at Newcastle Fans.. if showing complete dedication and passion for our club is crime.. then so be it.. but we love our club and for me that will never change.. We're not disillusioned, just dedicated.. I think Duff is finding some pace at the minute.. Bassong is getting settled.. there are some positives to take from the last few games..

I think Ashley got a lot right but he made a fundemental error putting in an extra tier of management in the club. If the manager (whoever he was) had full control of team affairs and transfers all would have been well but he had to try something different. To be fair it wouldn't have mattered who the "extra directors" were but to make Dennis Wise one was a big mistake as he has always been a figure of hate at Newcastle. I also think the fans who protested against Ashley didn't have a plan B or any thought as to what the result of the protestations would be. It's time for the club and the supporters to look forward - onwards and upwards!

I think the initial appointment of Keegan was one of nostalgia... he brought exciting football at one point, but walked out on the club (for whatever reason) and what did he win in that era? he then walked away again (for reasons I fully understand) but coud he have been more professional? To ask for him back now... I dont quite get? Joe can do the job the now, but for a full time manager... I think the club should look to the future and finally get someone realible, (once new owner is in) have some stability for a change and show faith in a manager who ideally would have a proven track record of actually winning trophies...

if you are not from the area you will never know how much damage ashley has done to this club. just remember when he sells up he might be looking for another club to buy just you hope that its not the club that you love and support.

What a sad state we are in, its about time we realised that it takes time to be a top prem side,Mr Ashley made one mistake and that was to appoint wise in a position over KK. Now it looks as if its all change again lets just hope that the next owners let the fans know whats going on in future. Its about time we as fans look forward not backward and stop looking for a fast fix because there is'nt one. I don't care what Boro fans think as they are from Yorkshire arn't they?

once again dennis wise has shown how little he knows about football and nufc ,it may be retaliation on ashleys behalf . a final show of his two fingers to nufc supporters before his departure. but its the crazy gang all over. trying to bring a totally different dimension of football into the n/e. not one person on the board actually knows the passion of the suppoters they are dealing with they have not played for the toon managed the toon supported the toon. my best advice is pack your cases and head back to the big smoke where you may know what you are doing you are all totally out of your depth in a foreign country up here

I think the Newcastle fans need to wake up and smell the coffee, first they hounded out Freddy Shepard and now Mike Ashley. These guys have put millions into the club and deserve to try things thier way. Newcastle are no bigger than Villa or Everton but the geordie's think they are. Keegan is an average manager, yes he did alright in his first spell, but won nothing, and blew the title race, when he totally lost it. He has admittedly been out of touch with football for so long, and the prem has changed so much. I think it was a mistake appointing him in the first place anyway, he quits every job he has ever had in football, and noone can dispute that. If i was mike Ashely just for the way i have been treated i would run the club into the ground and just right off some of my investment. To all Geordie's passion is one thing, but stupidity is another. Newcastle are a middle of the table Prem side just live with it.

Toby Hunt (x-wimbledon, now fulham fan) says...
Give Kinnear a chance, he proved himself at Wimbledon with minimum funds and got a bunch of average players to compete against the big boys....he is the best stop gap Newcastle could ask for....yes he knows D.Wise, but it seems Ashley approached him directly after Wise was unable to appoint a manager. Kinnear was great at wimbledon, good at luton and ok at Nottingham.....Newcastle fans, concentrate on showing your players faith and support and I hope you beat everyone else except Fulham :p

Well Laurel and Hardy (Ashley & Wise) have just put on another cracking comedy show! Let's be honest, nobody want's the job at Newcastle because of the current state of affairs, if we hadn't of got the lowest of low (Joe) then we probably would have had to let Dennis Wise run the club, so if it's on a temporary basis till Laurel & Hardy pack up and move out... Then I can't wait to see proper owners, with proper money, with proper ambitions for the club! First decision they make should be to bring back Kevin Keegan! Then stability will be restored and so will the fan's faith in the club!

Not who i would chosen for the job. We've got to back him tho and get behind the team. The only important thing is getting some good results and climbing the table. Yes we do want ashley n wise to leave A.S.A.P, but in the mean time we must back our team and whoever is manager!

I must admit, i feel very for Newcastle with the current state of affairs that their football club is in. This is a time though when the fans need to forget the troubles with Mr Ashley & Mr Wise and just focus all of their efforts on getting behind their team & pulling them through this difficult period. Fans are the most influential part of any football club and alot of the time, they can help determine the mindset of players on a saturday afternoon - my advice would be to concentrate on supporting your team & stop slating the hierarchy - things will improve.

Newcastle fans need to get real. As am non United fan living in Newcastle this whole thing is just a joke. Newcastle fans seem to think that KK or Alan Searer are the answer to everything - they're completely delusional. Mike Ashley has pumped loads of money into NUFC and has got them into a much better financial state than they've been in for a long time. He has essentially SAVED the club, but the fans don't see it. All they see is Kevin Keegan who is the 'messiah' and is untouchable, despite the fact he is a distinctly average manager who got out before he was made to look silly. And all this nonsense about Alan Shearer that seems to come around once a season - he has NO experience at managing - how could he possibly step in to manage Newcastle? He is a legend up here - why would he want to turn himself into a laughing stock too? Newcastle fans wake up please - i'm sick of all your moaning & just get behind your team for once.

First of all losing to Hull was a disgrace and i thought it wasnt going to get worse for this once decent club. This appointment is nothing more then revenge for making Mike Ashley and Denise Wise look like mugs. Newcastle are going to suffer hell before Ashley leaves and now with Kinnear running the show on the pitch they are now fully equiped to challenge Tottenham as the worst of the good teams!

Newcastle fans deserve better. This is a proud club, but the owner appointed a brilliant manager with an excellent track record to go with a big heart (Kevin Keegan) making him work for a Director of Football (Dennis Wise) with no experience or discernable compentence or talent for such a role. Instead of listening and learning from the experienced manager, Wise has acted like a play ground bully. Typically, when it all went wrong and Keegan threatened to resign, Dennis Wise hid like a faceless, mute coward behind the club owner afraid to face the fans and allowed Kevin Keegan to leave. If he had any professional integrity he would have resigned, allowing the fans to have the manager they - Kevin Keegan. Sadly, now Newcastle are floundering like a stricken ship in a storm just waiting to be ship wrecked. Wait for the transfer requests as the rats desert the sinking ship and they'll be staring relegation in the face. Surprise

The Toon Army should stop their whining! They keep shouting for their "messiah" Keegan to be re-instated, but what has Keegan ever won for them in his previous two stints as manager? If the fans are really serious about wanting their team to become a force in the Premiership, they should be looking to get a top established manager who will deliver silverware and success to the club. Kevin Keegan is certainy never going to do that, not any more than Joe Kinnear! Wake up and smell the coffee Toon Army!

Kinnear maybe not the choice of the fans but lets give the bloke a chance !! It's widely noted that it's on a 6 - 8 game contract with the club supposedley to be sold by then. We're going nowhere at present with a host of managers turning down the job, so let's cut him some slack and get behind the team we all love !!!!! As for all the other fans taking a swipe at us, would you still have 50,000 fans with no trophies in 50 yrs and suffering our present plight - thought not. Boro and scumderland can laugh now but the worm will turn once again and we'll always be north east top dogs.

Well, well, well, the joke continues I'm afraid, NUFC are a total laughing stock across the length and breadth of the UK. This appointment of Joe Kinnear as Dennis Wise's yes man is even more laughable. Ashley should sell up and get out of Toon as soon as possible, and certainly whilst there is still some value left in the club before it collapses completely under him!!!!
