Ronaldo: linked with Madrid again

Following the claims of former Real Madrid Chairman Ramon Calderon that Cristiano Ronaldo would be joining the Spanish champions in the summer, Guillem Balague told Revista De La Liga that he believes a deal has been struck by the club and the player.

Calderon told Cadena SER radio station that 'one of the best players in the world' would be joining Real this summer and Balague confirmed the suggestion a contract had been signed between Madrid and Ronaldo's agent, Jorge Mendes.

"Ramon Calderon is suggesting that is the case," said Balague.

"Ramon Calderon went on the biggest radio show there is on Monday to say, 'thanks to our work one of the best players in the world will play for Real Madrid next season.'

"A deal has been struck between the player's representatives and Real Madrid. Of course Manchester United has got a say on that, but now it is primarily down to Florentino Perez - who will announce soon his candidacy to be a president of Real Madrid - to accept that deal.

"Vicente Beluga, the president of Real Madrid, has shown him the papers already and said 'if you want him you can take him'.

"It's agreed that Cristiano Ronaldo will earn 12million euros, Jorge Mendes will earn 8million euros as a commission, they reckon, as well, they will need 100 million euros or so to get Ronaldo from Manchester United."

Boastful

Graham Hunter accepted the likelihood of the arrangement but was appalled by Calderon's boastful statements about the deal.

"I'm not going to go up against Guillem - if his best investigative report says there is a deal in place player-to-club I believe that, what I think is shameless is Calderon," said Hunter.

"This is a guy who was drummed out of office because he fixed the assembly because he didn't like the way the financial figures were looking.

"He brought in thugs, bully boys. He's out of office because of something that is so close to criminal malpractice he is lucky not to be in jail.

"He said last season wasn't quite the right time to bring him (Ronaldo) in. That's rubbish. Manchester united refused to let him go.

"If they've got another deal with Ronaldo and Jorge Mendes what's changed from last season?"
