Leeds Rhinos coach Tony Smith praised his side's performance during the 10-8 defeat against St Helens in the qualifying semi-final at Knowsley Road.

"Saints did well to hang in there at the end. The second-half we had field position and they scrambled really hard to hang in there - all credit to them."
Tony Smith Quotes of the week

The Rhinos, who scored their points through Lee Smith's interception try and a Kevin Sinfield penalty, largely dominated the second-half but could not turn their possession and territory into points.

Smith's men now face the winner of Saturday's elimination semi-final between Hull FC and Wigan Warriors for the right to face Saints in the Grand Final at Old Trafford on October 13.

"I'm pleased with the way we went about our work," Smith told Sky Sports.

"There were some things we needed to do a little bit better in that first-half.

"The opportunities that arise - sometimes you need to take them. I thought we were pretty close on a couple of occasions.

"Saints did well to hang in there at the end. The second-half we had field position and they scrambled really hard to hang in there - all credit to them.

"We've got to earn the right to get there now, we'll have a tough match against somebody next week."
