Korkidas: two-year deal

Castleford have made their first signing since regaining their Super League status, with Michael Korkidas agreeing a two-year deal with the Tigers.

The 26-year-old prop forward joins Castleford from Salford City Reds, with Australian Korkidas becoming a free agent after the latter were relegated from Super League at the end of last season.

He stayed at Salford for just one season having joined them from Wakefield - ironically being part of the Wildcats side which condemned Castleford to relegation 12 months ago.

"It's great to have Michael on board," said Castleford chief executive Richard Wright. "He will give us plenty of go forward and is a big tough physical presence.

"He is very experienced in our game having spent five seasons in Super League and he always seems to have been a difficult player to deal with when he has been in the opposition ranks."

The Wildcats were thought to have been in the running to re-sign Korkidas, who originally joined them from NRL side Sydney Roosters in 2003.
