Sailor: Rugby league return
Former dual-code international Wendell Sailor has returned to rugby league with St George Illawarra after completing a two-year suspension for failing a drugs test.
The 33-year-old was banned in 2006 after testing positive for cocaine while at rugby union side New South Wales Waratahs.
And having served his time, Sailor - who made his name in rugby league for Brisbane Broncos before switching codes in 2001 - is delighted to have been given another chance.
"I'm very excited about joining the Dragons and am grateful to them for giving me the opportunity," said Sailor.
"I don't believe that my sporting career is finished and I have had a long time to reflect upon it, having been outside of the sporting arena since May 2006.
"I believe that I can still compete at a high level and it is comforting to
know that I now have a real opportunity to do so.
"A lot of times in those two years you have regrets and you just want to move on.
"There were some dark days there, days when I didn't think I could probably come back."
Sailor, who scored 12 tries in 16 Tests playing rugby league, will initially begin his comeback with Shellharbour Marlins before looking to push for a comeback with St George Illawarra in the NRL.
