Quotes of the week
Castleford Tigers have confirmed the signing of Brett Ferres after the forward was released by Wakefield.
The 22-year-old was allowed to leave the Wildcats despite having another 12 months remaining on his contract.
The England international did not remain without a team for too long, though, quickly agreeing to a three-year deal with his hometown club.
Coach Terry Matterson is delighted with his latest recruit for the Tigers having overseen a dramatic overhaul of the playing staff for next season.
"I am very pleased to have been able to add Brett to our squad, and when we learnt that he might be available I was keen to bring him to the club," he said.
"He is a very talented player, and when you add to that the fact that he is young local boy, he is just the sort of player that we are looking to bring into the club.
"He also has the experience of 70-plus appearances in Super League. Brett has played for England and I feel sure that he has the talent to get back into the England squad in the future."
The second-rower started his career at Bradford before moving to Wakefield as part of the deal that took David Solomona to the Bulls.
Ferres, who was part of the England squad for the 2006 Federation Cup, is looking forward to working alongside some familiar faces again at the Tigers.
"I'm very happy to be joining Cas, it's my home town team and the club I watched as a youngster," he said.
"This is a good opportunity for me, a new start and I'm really looking forward to the new season. I know quite a few of the players and played alongside Craig Huby and Michael Shenton as a junior.
"The squad that Terry has put together has a lot of new faces and some really good players who came through last year, and I feel that we can have a very good season."
