Huddersfield Giants second rower Danny Kirmond has been hit with a huge injury blow as he now faces a 12-week lay-off with a fractured cheekbone.

Kirmond suffered the injury during Friday's 22-6 engage Super League win over Hull KR.

Later X-rays revealed he sustained a depressed fracture of the cheekbone in, and the in-form 23-year-old now faces three months out of the game.

Kirmond recently signed a new four-year contract, and has played in 15 of the Giants' 18 matches so far this year and scored the match-winning try to knock Castleford out of the Challenge Cup eight days ago.

"We've been told we've lost Danny for between six and 12 weeks," said

Huddersfield coach Nathan Brown.

"Obviously, we're hoping it's just the six.

"But, whatever the length of time, it's really disappointing for everyone concerned. Danny's been going really well for us and we all feel for him.

"But we've all just got to deal with it and move on. The threat of injury in our sport is always there."
