Hull KR forward Makali Aizue has agreed a two-year contract with Championship outfit Halifax for next season.

The Papua New Guinea prop, 31, is Rovers' longest-serving player, but has not been offered a new contract at Craven Park.

As a result he has now opted to join Halifax after spending nine years with Hull KR.

Robins coach Justin Morgan acknowledged it had been a tough call to bring an end to Aizue's career at Craven Park.

"It was a very difficult decision, especially when it was someone who has been part of the fabric of the place for so long, but players and coaches need to move on at some stage," Morgan explained.

Halifax director of football Martin Hall, who coached Aizue at Craven Park in 2004, expressed his delight at the capture of the experienced forward.

"Makali could probably have been playing in Super League next season if he had chosen to," Hall stated.

"Fortunately, we have managed to persuade him to come and continue his career with us."
