Jamie Rooney has completed a permanent move from Wakefield to Barrow.

The stand-off has spent the last three months on loan to the Raiders, helping them reach the Co-operative Championship Grand Final.

The 29-year-old has now signed a two-year deal to remain at Craven Park despite interest from three Super League clubs.

Rooney started his career with Featherstone Rovers before joining the Wildcats in 2002, going on to make over a century of appearances during his time at Belle Vue.

Clear indication

"I am absolutely delighted for all concerned and for Jamie Rooney," Barrow chairman Des Johnston said.

"He has proved since his arrival here to be a first-class person and player, on and off the pitch.

"I kept hearing that Jamie would be going here and there, but we had sat down weeks ago and it was quite clear that Barrow RL had made Jamie extremely welcome and he absolutely loves it here so the willingness of both parties made negotiations a lot easier.

"This signing, irrelevant of whether we now meet the criteria for Super League or not, is a clear and massive indication of mine and this club's intentions to be competing at the highest level for the run-up to Super League application."
