Ryan Hall has been crowned international Rookie of the Year at the Rugby League International Federation Player gala dinner.

The England winger picked up the award ahead of Penrith centre Michael Jennings and international team-mate Richie Myler.

Hall scored 28 tries this season for the Rhinos as they were crowned the engage Super League champions for a third successive year.

The 21-year-old was also named as the winger in a team of the year that included his club colleague Kevin Sinfield at loose forward.

Ellis rewarded

Another Englishman, Gareth Ellis, was rewarded for an excellent first season Down Under with Wests Tigers by being named the best second rower.

However the rest of the team was dominated by players from the NRL, including the newly-crowned player of the year Jarryd Hayne.

The Parramatta full-back pipped Greg Inglis and last year's winner Billy Slater to the top honour, which was presented by former Great Britain captain Ellery Hanley at the event in Leeds.

The 21-year-old is the second recipient of the trophy, which recognises individual excellence in the period between the start of last year's World Cup and this season's NRL and Super League Grand Finals.

The winners were chosen by a secret ballot of a 16-strong panel of journalists, broadcasters, former coaches and international players.

Craig Bellamy scooped the gong for best coach after his title-winning season with the Melbourne Storm, who had Inglis and hooker Cameron Smith named in the nine-man team of the year which picks the best player at each position.
