New Zealand international and Huddersfield centre Paul Whatuira is expected to join pre-season training following his release from a special mental health unit.

The 28-year-old, who has won 16 caps for the Kiwis, was arrested last month following an alleged attack on two men near Huddersfield town centre.

A police spokeswoman has since confirmed that he was released on October 26 and that no further action will be taken against him.

"Fatz is going well and we're looking forward to welcoming him back to pre-season training," Giants coach Nathan Brown told the Huddersfield Examiner.

"It's obviously been a very difficult time for him and what happened came as a shock to everyone.

"He feels he's recovering well at the moment, which is very good, and we hope he can move on."

Whatuira joined Huddersfield from Wests Tigers at the beginning of the 2008 season and featured in their Challenge Cup final team which lost to Warrington at Wembley earlier this year.
