Wakefield are expected to sign Paul Cooke from Super League rivals Hull KR.

The 28-year-old is currently out of favour at Rovers having been dropped for a second time by coach Justin Morgan.

Cooke is now poised to move to the Wildcats on a loan deal that will run until the end of the 2010 season, when his contract at Craven Park expires.

Rumours of the switch surfaced at the end of last week and it is believed the player told his current team-mates of his impending departure on Tuesday.

Kear reunion

Cooke, who rejected the chance to join Crusaders in the off-season, made a stunning cross-city move from Hull FC to Rovers back in 2007.

During his time at the Airlie Birds he won the Challenge Cup in 2005 under then coach John Kear, who is now in charge at Wakefield.

The Wildcats, who suffered a humiliating 52-0 home defeat by Huddersfield on Saturday, ironically come up against Hull KR in their next match on Friday.

Wakefield have confirmed one signing, with former Castleford prop Ben Gledhill, 20, being handed a two-year contract.

The former England Under-18 international arrived at Belle Vue on a part-time basis during the winter but has now done enough to earn a full-time deal.
