Wakefield have confirmed that they would let Danny Brough join Super League rivals Huddersfield - but only if the price is right.

Although the Wildcats are keen for the prolific scrum-half to stay at Belle Vue, the former Scotland captain's contract expires at the end of the season and he has turned down the offer of a new deal.

Wakefield executive director Diane Maskill admitted on Monday that the club are in discussions with Huddersfield over a potential move, with the Giants expected to put forward players as well as cash to secure Brough's signature as soon as possible.

"We have been discussing the possibility of new contract with Danny Brough and his agent since summer 2009 and during that time we made several offers, none of which proved satisfactory," said Maskill.

"While we were anxious to keep a quality player like Danny at Wakefield Trinity Wildcats, we have reached a point in the negotiations where we were no longer prepared to increase our final offer.

Quality

"Huddersfield Giants have approached us concerning Danny and we are considering what they have said to us.

"Any deal would have to be in the best interests of Wakefield Trinity Wildcats and enable us to maintain or improve the quality of the team's competitiveness and potential."

Huddersfield, who jumped to third place in the table on Sunday following their 26-20 win against champions Leeds, believe Brough would provide a significant boost to their attacking play.

Giants coach Nathan Brown would switch regular scrum-half Luke Robinson to hooker to make room for the skilful goal-kicker.

Meanwhile, Wakefield are confident they can sign Hull KR stand-off Paul Cooke on loan to the end of the season, although the two deals are unconnected.
