Salford have signed full-back Luke Patten from Canterbury Bulldogs on a three-year deal. The City Reds are thought to have beaten off competition from Engage Super League rivals Huddersfield to land the 30-year-old. Patten's signing is the latest boost after key performers Daniel Holdsworth, Ashley Gibson and Adam Sidlow committed to new contracts. Salford chairman John Wilkinson said: "It is undoubtedly great news for Salford to announce the signing of Luke Patten from the Bulldogs. "Luke has been one of the finest full-backs in the world for many years and it is a signal of our intent for the future. "As part of our plan as we move to our new home in 2012, it is our intention to strengthen the team and compete in what will be an historical year for our club." Patten, who joined Canterbury in 2001, has twice been the Australian club's player of the year and has played 220 first-grade games for the. "Luke has been one of this club's great leaders and we are sorry to see him go," said Bulldogs chief executive Todd Greenberg. Patten will link up with the Reds from next season.
