Stand-in coach Shaun Wane wants Wigan to make amends for their heartbreaking Carnegie Challenge Cup exit to Leeds when they take on the Rhinos on Friday night.

The Warriors travel to Headingley knowing a victory in the Sky live fixture would all-but secure a first League Leaders' Shield in a decade.

However Wane - who will again be in charge with head coach Michael Maguire back in Australia on compassionate leave - also wants to avenge Wigan's cup exit back in May.

Wigan saw their hopes of a trip to Wembley this year dashed by a converted try from Lee Smith in the dying stages of a titanic tussle.

"Revenge is on my mind," said Wane, who was also at the helm for the 46-0 win over Hull FC last Friday.

"We really didn't want to lose that game and could have quite easily won. Leeds played for 80 minutes that day and showed us what to do.

"I'll be showing videos of them celebrating and how they won that game and how the errors we made put them back in the game.

"The players have been hurting and I need them to come up with a performance. It's not a bad thing to have that feeling of revenge and I've made sure the players have got that feeling."

A win over the reigning Super League champions will put Wigan six points ahead of second-placed Warrington - who play St Helens on Saturday.

Wane feels the Cherry and Whites deserve to finish the regular season for the hard work put in by the players over the course of the year.

"Winning the minor premiership doesn't get you a trophy but in our player's minds it's a massive thing, because we perform week in, week out, and have been the most consistent team," he told the club's official website.

"I think the players deserve it because of how hard they've worked, but at the end of the day we're working towards a Grand Final and we want to finish the season as strong as we can, picking up every point we can and restricting the opposition to as little as possible."
