Quotes of the week
Wigan have handed new contracts to experienced props Stuart Fielden and Andy Coley.
Fielden, who turns 31 next Tuesday, has been rewarded with a two-year deal that will keep him with the club until the end of the 2012 season.
The England international joined the Warriors from Bradford Bulls in the summer of 2006 for a world record transfer fee of £450,000.
After experiencing a dramatic fall from grace in the past few years, Fielden has rediscovered his best form in 2010 under coach Michael Maguire.
"I am thrilled to have agreed a contract for the next two seasons," said Fielden, whose form this year has pushed him back into contention for the national team.
"Under Michael and the coaching staff, the club is heading in the right direction and I want to be a part of any future success.
"I always wanted to stay as I am really enjoying my rugby. Wigan is a great club with wonderful fans. It is a very exciting time."
Fellow forward Coley has also agreed to extend his stay at the DW Stadium. The 32-year-old has signed a new 12-month deal, with an option for 2012.
The front rower, who is part of Maguire's leadership group, is coming to the end of his third season with the club having joined from Salford.
"I am pleased that my future at Wigan has been secured," he said. "I have enjoyed my time here so far and, hopefully, the League Leaders' Shield is only the first part of silverware to come.
"There is a great atmosphere at the club and I feel that I am thriving on the added responsibility of being a part of the leadership group under Madge."
Australian Maguire praised the pair for their efforts in helping the Cherry and White finish the regular season on top of the engage Super League table.
"Stuart and Andy have both been outstanding for us this year and have played a big part in helping us finish top of the table," he said.
"Both are strong powerful forwards with a tremendous attitude and they will undoubtedly play an important role as we go into the business end of this season and beyond."
