Former Catalans Dragons coach Kevin Walters will take charge of Brisbane Easts next year.

Walters steered Catalans to within 80 minutes of the engage Super League grand final in his first year in charge.

But the Dragons have struggled badly this season, finishing with the wooden spoon, and he opted not to take up the third year of his contract.

The Australian, who has previously worked as assistant to Queensland coach Mal Meninga, took Ipswich Jets to the Queensland Cup grand final in 2008 before being signed by Catalans as the successor to Mick Potter.
