Colin Montgomerie has withdrawn from next week's Mercedes-Benz Championship in Cologne with a shoulder injury.
The Scot consulted a couple of specialists about the problem and had a scan after it failed to improve following last week's Johnnie Walker Championship.
He has now been forced to pull out of the event in Germany, compounding a miserable week that also saw him, as expected, miss out on a place in Nick Faldo's Ryder Cup side.
The Scot's next competitive appearance is now likely to be the Quinn Direct British Masters at The Belfry on September 25-28 - the week after Europe attempt to secure a fourth successive victory against the Americans in Kentucky.
Meanwhile, Lee Westwood, who is part of Faldo's side, is still to secure an invitation for the Mercedes-Benz Championship having withdrawn from this week's European Masters in Switzerland with tonsilitis.
He was hoping to switch events in a bid to gain some tournament action ahead of the Ryder Cup match at Valhalla, but is relying on a sponsor's invite having not originally entered.
However, the exemptions have already been taken by Americans Fred Couples and John Daly, Germans Bernhard Langer, Alex Cejka and Marcel Siem and Swede Daniel Chopra leaving the Englishman out in the cold at present.
