Simon Khan insists he is determined to build on his victory at qualifying school with a productive 2010 season on the European Tour.

The 37-year-old from Essex won back his card in style at the marathon six-round event in Spain having lost his playing privileges after finishing 127th on the inaugural Race to Dubai money-list.

Starting at this week's South African Open, Khan is now looking to re-establish himself on Tour and has already demonstrated he has the pedigree to do so.

In 2003 he collected six top-10 finishes and the following year he beat Paul Casey in a play-off to clinch the Wales Open.

He earned more than £500,000 that season and nearly £650,000 in 2006 after finishing runner-up to David Howell in the PGA Championship at Wentworth.

However, over the last couple of years he rather lost his way and paid the price at the end of last season.

But he insists his triumph in Spain has revitalised his confidence and is now approaching the months ahead with renewed optimism.

"At the start of the week (qualifying school) the aim was to finish in the top five, so I've exceeded my expectations, which feels good," Khan commented.

"But I know the hard work starts here. I've got to forget about this but obviously I'll take a lot of confidence from it. Hopefully there's more to come."
