Rory McIlroy has moved up a further place in the world rankings - despite not even playing this week.

The 19-year-old has climbed from 16th to 15th because of the rolling two-year points system used and has now crept ahead of Justin Rose.

It means the Northern Irish youngster has only five other Europeans ahead of him in the world points list, Ryder Cup quintet Sergio Garcia, Padraig Harrington, Henrik Stenson, Robert Karlsson and Lee Westwood.

McIlroy surged into the world's top-20 for the first time last week on the back of his maiden European Tour triumph in the Dubai Desert Classic.

While there was no European Tour event this week, the PGA Tour was in action and it was American Nick Watney who prevailed in the Buick Invitational at Torrey Pines.

The 27-year-old birdied two of his final three holes to pinch a one-shot victory from compatriot John Rollins and has jumped from 184th to 76th in the world as a result.
