Woods (L) with US captain Pavin
American captain Corey Pavin plans to hold talks with Tiger Woods at next month's USPGA Championship to ascertain whether the world number one wants to compete in October's Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor.
Woods currently stands seventh in the American points list with the top eight players gaining automatic qualification for Pavin's team.
However, he could soon find himself in need of a wild card pick should he slide down the table with the likes of Hunter Mahan and Ricky Barnes pushing hard for places.
Pavin, who is this week competing at the British Senior Open at Carnoustie, concedes he is unsure whether Woods would accept a wild card.
"I have not spoken to Tiger yet about the Ryder Cup," Pavin stated. "But I do plan to talk to him about it during the PGA Championship.
"All I know is what Tiger said at the Masters - I don't think he has said anything to change that position."
At the Masters, when asked about the Ryder Cup, Woods simply said: "Would I like to play in it? If I qualify."
But Pavin remains clear that he would love to be able to count on the 34-year-old's services in Wales.
"That's for sure, there's no doubt about it," he continued. "He's the best player in the world. He's the number one player in the world and he's going to make Team USA better if he's on it."
