Ebdon: Stirring comeback

Peter Ebdon produced a stirring fightback to book his place in the quarter-finals of the Masters with a 6-2 victory over Marco Fu.

The former world champion dropped the first two frames but hit back to win six in a row to earn a date with either Ronnie O'Sullivan or Neil Robertson.

Hong Kong's Fu appeared to be on his way to a 3-0 lead at Wembley but missed a crucial brown, allowing the Londoner to pull one back with a run of 27.

Ebdon then levelled, and looked a different player after the interval as he reeled off break after break that left Fu looking on in the corner.

Pink

A century looked to be on the cards in the eighth frame before he missed a pink, but he had already done enough to go through.

Mark Selby breezed into the last eight with a 6-1 victory over Ding Junhui in the opening match.

The Leicester potter raced into a 5-0 lead and was only denied a whitewash when he failed to pot frame ball in the sixth, allowing Ding to reduce the deficit.

Selby quickly polished things off and will face either John Higgins or Mark Allen in the next round.

White blitzed

Mark King ended Jimmy White's Masters dream on day one at Wembley with a 6-2 victory.

World number 56 White, handed a wild card to the London event, could do little to impress as he struggled to keep control of the cue ball, looking a shadow of the player who became such a favourite with his home crowd down the years.

White appeared nervy and handed the first frame to King with a string of errors.

The 47-year-old was on course to level at 1-1 until he overran position on the final black, but King gave him another chance, which he took to the delight of the crowd.

But King took the next with a break of 64 before going into the mid-session interval with a 3-1 lead.

White clawed one back after the resumption with a run of 48 but from there on it was all King.

He claimed the next three frames, the highlight a break of 85 in frame seven, with White unable to find any fluency among the balls.
