Jonsson: In-form for Hammers Fotospeedway.pl
Lakeside Hammers showed their potential ahead of the new season as they defeated Poole Pirates 53-40 in the return leg of their challenge fixture.
The Pirates easily beat Lakeside by some 16 points on the South Coast earlier this week, but the Essex side showed that hype surrounding them is justified after their convincing win.
Number one Andreas Jonsson showed how at home he is in Essex with 14, with Adam Shields (11+2), Joonas Kylmakorpi (8+2) and Jonas Davidsson (7+1) providing admirable back-up.
Poole star Bjarne Pedersen, as he was in the first leg, was caught out as he was testing machinery but he rattled up nine points from his last two rides as he found the right set-up. Indeed Pedersen's tactical heat win late on secured an aggregate success for the visitors.
Pole Adam Skornicki again showed some tremendous early season form with nine plus one.
Coventry Bees and Ipswich Witches completed their inter-league challenge matches with convincing wins in the second legs.
Ipswich were far too strong for King's Lynn as they sealed a 61-31 win at Foxhall - although The Stars were weakend by the fact Jason Crump was not able to guest for them.
Veteran Chris Louis showed he is still going to be very hard to beat at home as he reeled off a 15-point maximum, whilst Piotr Swiderski (13+2) also helped himself to a big score.
Indeed there was only reserve Chris Schramm who failed to land a big score, as only Tomas Topinka showed any real resistance for the visitors.
Elite League champions Coventry completed their match with the same scoreline as Ipswich as they beat Sheffield Tigers 61-31 at Brandon.
And again it was new signing Simon Stead that impressed as he claimed a maximum on his home debut.
Chris Harris and Billy Janniro also hit double figures as Premier League Sheffield struggled, although their guest - teen-sensation Tai Woffinden, impressed with 9+1.
See what has got the Sky Sports experts' tongues wagging over a busy seven days in sport.
