Poole Pirates have suffered a huge blow after learning that new Polish signing Adam Skornicki has broken his wrist.
The Showman, as he is known, has been in fine form since his winter move to Wimoborne Road - but he has now been sidelined and will miss the start of Poole's Sky Sports Elite League campaign which opens with a trip to Wolverhampton on Monday.
Poole boss Matt Ford has confirmed he is facing six weeks on the sideline, in which time they will deploy the rider-replacement facility.
"This is bad news for Adam and for us as a club as we were knitting together well as a team and Adam had settled in very quickly," Ford told the club's website.
"I never doubted Adam's potential, I have always believed him to be a big scorer in the right team and I had a feeling that our 2008 side was just the sort of surroundings that would bring out the best in him.
"The injury means that he is likely to be sidelined for around 6 weeks, just as we are going into the league campaign.
"We will cover with the rider-replacement facility in the short term and just hope that Adam makes a swift and speedy recovery."
Skornicki was hurt as he tried to pass Swindon Robins reserve Theo Pijper during their Craven Shield meeting on Thursday.
The accident also saw Pijper sustain injury, as he broke his collarbone. The Dutchman is expected to be fit to ride within days.
If Pijper does not recover then Swindon would use their official number eigfht to stand-in for him, Isle of Wight's Corey Gathercole.
"He said he feels okay in himself and fingers crossed, he should be alright," said Robins boss Alun Rossiter.
"I hope he's back for the first Elite League meeting. It's a couple of days in between but obviously we've got to see how he is. We've got Cory Gathercole to come in as a back-up if not."
