Hampel: Double figures again Fotospeedway.pl
Defending Sky Sports Elite League champions Coventry Bees recorded their opening win of the new season.
The Bees were far too strong for Ipswich Witches at Brandon on Friday evening as they won 52-37 and bounced back from their disappointing home defeat to Eastbourne earlier this week - a meeting you can see highlights of by clicking here.
Coventry's win was all the better because they had to do with six men as Andreas Messing was whipped out in his opening race and hospitalised, although thankfully the Swede was later diagnosed with whiplash rather than anything too serious.
Messing's absence meant a busy evening for his fellow reserve Stan Burza - but he did not disappoint as he claimed 9+3.
The Bees' top man was Simon Stead with 13+1 whilst Olly Allen's bright start to the new season continued with 12+1, although top-men Chris Harris (5+1) and Rory Schlein (5+1) will be less than pleased with their own efforts.
Jarek Hampel hit double figures again for The Witches as did his fellow countryman Piotr Swiderski (10+1) - but Robert Miskowiak (4+1) and Chris Louis (3) both disappointed.
Lakeside Hammers claimed the predicted win over Swindon Robins at the Arena-Essex Raceway, but the contest was far closer than anyone could have expected as the home side only claimed a 50-45 win.
The Hammers are still without number one Andreas Jonsson although his guest Davey Watt did okay with 8 from four rides.
Captain Adam Shields did well for his 12 whilst Jonas Davidsson continues to impress this term as he grabbed 10.
The Robins' display was arguably a three-man performance with Leigh Adams (17) and Mads Korneliussen (14+1) impressing hugely.
Troy Batchelor (8+2) provided the only real back-up, as Travis McGowan at number five could only claim a poor 2.
Jonsson will remain sidelined for Swindon's three meetings next week and The Hammers management have already booked guests to replace him.
Jarek Hampel will fill in at Poole, Davey Watt against Swindon and Chris Louis will line-up against Poole in the home match-up.
See what has got the Sky Sports experts' tongues wagging over a busy seven days in sport.
