Defending Sky Sports Elite League champions Coventry Bees suffered another setback at Brandon in only their third home meeting of the season.
The Bees lost in their opening match when they went down to Eastbourne - but in arguably a more surprising result, they have been held to a draw by Belle Vue Aces.
The Bees had a host of mechanical difficulties which cost them dear as Chris Harris and Billy Janniro suffered badly.
That allowed The Aces to hit them hard, with number one Jason Crump leading by example with 15 points.
Despite their difficulties Coventry looked like they might snatch a narrow win with Rory Schlein doing very well for his 12.
But in the final heat the hero for Belle Vue was Charlie Gjedde. Coventry only needed a 3-3 to win, and that is what they had with Schlein and Harris behind Crump.
But the British number one could not hang on to his point as Gjedde swooped to go around him and claim the point.
Lakeside Hammers were, as expected, run close by Poole Pirates at the Arena-Essex raceway - but they managed to claim a 48-45 success.
Lakeside were solid throughout even though their only man to hit double figures was Czech reserve Lubos Tomicek, who claimed an outstanding 12+1.
But guest Chris Louis, Leigh Lanham, Adam Shields and Jonas Davidsson all provided good support - as they all scored 8.
Bjarne Pedersen's up-and-down season continued, this time showing some good form with 11 - which included a tactical win - and Davey Watt also claimed 11.
Chris Holder (10) and Freddie Eriksson (7+1) showed up well as Poole just came up short - but showed again how competitive they will be this season.
See what has got the Sky Sports experts' tongues wagging over a busy seven days in sport.
