Ipswich are contesting Monday's 50-43 Sky Live defeat at home to Swindon over the appearance of Sheffield rider Joel Parsons.

The guest reserve scored a vital seven points as the Robins came from 10 points behind to defeat the Witches, but Parsons should not have been allowed to ride because his average was too high.

His new 'interim' average came into effect on Saturday but the British Speedway Promoters' Association did not confirm it until Monday, by which time it was too late for Swindon to find another guest for the injured Theo Pijper.

"I am absolutely disgusted," Witches promoter John Louis told Speedway Star. "The rules are crystal clear and were in use last season.

"I am not accusing Swindon of underhand dealing but rules are rules."

Mike Smillie, former Ipswich team manager and now an advisor, was even more scathing, adding: "It is incidents like this that make me glad I'm not actively involved in a sport like speedway any more."
