Adams: Match-winning ride
Swindon Robins extended their lead at the top of the Sky Sports Elite League table after a well earned 56-37 victory over fellow high flyers Eastbourne Eagles at Arlington Stadium.
Australian Leigh Adams showed his undoubted class with a superb 13+1 as Alun Rossiter's men continue to defy those who predicted a season of torment for the Robins prior to the campaign.
Scott Nicholls (15) was once again instrumental for his side, but his contribution proved in vein as the Eagles slipped further behind the rampant Robins.
The British GP star scored a tactical race win in Heat five with the Eagles already 10 points adrift, with team-mate Lewis Bridger adding an additional point to narrow the gap.
But with only Ed Kennett and Simon Gustafsson claiming one heat win apiece besides three from Nicholls, the visitors were never in with a chance.
Gustafsson led home an Eastbourne 5-1 with Cameron Woodward in the penultimate race, this after Nicholls had denied Adams a paid maximum in the previous heat, but it was merely consolatory.
Troy Batchelor (12+2) gave Adams fine support as did Mads Korneliussen and James Wright, who both picked up 8+2, while Seb Alden scored two victories from reserve on a thoroughly pleasing night for the hosts.
In Monday's other match Wolverhampton Wolves picked up a much needed 59-33 win over Peterborough Panthers at Monmore Green.
The imperious Freddie Lindgren stole the show for the hosts as he grabbed 11+1 to lift his side above Belle Vue, Coventry and Peterborough and into fifth position.
Fellow Grand Prix star Niels-Kristian Iversen also bagged 11 points despite an exclusion in Heat 9 when he was deemed to have taken Daniel King's racing line.
Kenneth Bjerre (11) starred for the Panthers, but the young Dane lacked support on the evening and the Wolves ensured they bounced back from Wednesday night's defeat to the Robins with a well deserved two points.
Coventry's scheduled clash with Belle Vue was postponed due to a waterlogged track at Kirkmanshulme Lane and the fixture will be rearranged.
See what has got the Sky Sports experts' tongues wagging over a busy seven days in sport.
