Grand Prix and Poole Pirates star Bjarne Pedersen has suffered a huge blow after receiving the news that he has broken his wrist.

The Dane is set for four to six weeks on the sidelines after crashing heavily during Poole's dismal Craven Shield semi-final second leg defeat at Brandon on Friday evening.

Pedersen crashed after clipping team-mate Adam Skornicki, and salt was rubbed into the wounds as Poole were on an 8-1 and indeed if they had secured that they would likely have made the Craven Shield final.

The Poole number one admits he is angry with himself about what happened at Coventry - which saw him injured and the Pirates throw away a 24-point lead from the first leg.

"I'm cheesed off," he said. "When you're leading 24 points from the first leg you shouldn't lose on aggregate.

"I feel so angry about it, for the club and the fans. I feel I let my team down."

Pedersen tried to explain his crash, saying: "Adam had produced a fantastic start and I was out in front with him.

"But I was scared they (Coventry riders Simon Stead and Stanislaw Burza) would go around us.

"So I went really wide, but I went a little bit too wide and picked up some grip.

"I hit my wrist on Adam's bike's mudguard, it straightened me up and I went into the fence.

"It was my fault, but I wanted to get us into the final. I wanted to win the race so we could get in the final."

Poole are now faced with something of an injury crisis ahead of the next meeting - which is against Swindon Robins and live on Sky Sports 1 on Monday.

The Pirates are already without Polish duo Karol Zabik and Zibi Suchecki, whilst Skornicki is still not 100 per cent following an early season broken wrist.

Now Pedersen is also out and leaves Poole with a huge headache, whilst the Dane is also set to miss the next two Grands Prix.
