Eastbourne Eagles returned to winning ways but only just as they edged Peterborough Panthers 46-44 at Arlington.

The Eagles were never behind but Peterborough were always in contact and could have won the meeting going into the last heat - but a Danny King fall banished those hopes.

Eastbourne were led brilliantly again by new British champion Scott Nicholls (14+1), but there was outstanding back-up from Cameron Woodward (11+2) and Ed Kennett (10+1) too.

The Panthers had Hans Andersen firing on all cylinders again with 15 points from his six rides, but there was little else on show although Claus Vissing will be happy with his 8+2 from the main-body of the team.

Hammers win

Defeat means Peterborough remain bottom of the table whilst Eastbourne are clear in fifth - although they will look to close the gap on those above them including Lakeside in fourth, who secured a comfortable 53-39 win over Poole Pirates on Friday.

Poole could have gone top with victory, but Lakeside were just too strong on home ground with all seven of their side contributing to the win.

Star of the show was reserve Joonas Kylmakorpi with 14+1 whilst number one Andreas Jonsson showed no signs of his shocking crash at the GP last week with 11+1.

Adam Shields (9+1), Leigh Lanham (8+3) and Ricky Kling (6+2) also showed up well.

For Poole the departing Krzysztof Kasprzak signed off in fine style with 14 points, but the likes of Davey Watt (9) and Chris Holder (7) could not produce the big-scoring back-up needed.
