Pedersen: Three wins for Poole
Poole Pirates moved into second place in the Sky Sports Elite League with a fine 51-41 away victory against the in-form Ipswich Witches.
Ipswich had been in flying form after compiling seven wins on the bounce, but a two-week break obviously had some ill effects as they failed to recover from a slow start at Foxhall.
The away team built up an early 16-8 lead after just four heats and Ipswich could not find a way to get back into the contest.
After losing at home to Ipswich earlier in the season, the Pirates gained revenge with a fine away win themselves, and it also saw them claim second spot in the table.
The Witches were in superb form after winning seven straight meetings, one of them a ten-point win at Poole, but over two weeks off the track did not agree with the hosts and they were blown away by a blistering start by the Pirates.
Poole won the first five heats of the night, two by Chris Holder, and won four of them 4-2 to build a healthy lead at 19-11 after a third of the meeting.
Only in heat six did Ipswich get a win when Jaroslaw Hampel crossed the line in front, but it brought the Witches no closer with Poole filling the next two slots for a 3-3.
A maximum 5-1 in heat eight led by Daniel Davidsson opened up a ten-point lead for Poole at 29-19, and Davey Watt bagged his second win of the night in the next to thwart Ipswich's tactical ride.
After a couple of level heats Bjarne Pedersen won his third race of the night in the12th and the 4-2 there restored the ten-point difference at 42-32.
Holder then added a third win of the night for him and it was all over - with the Pirates eventually running out 51-41 winners.
The result puts Poole into second place in the Elite League table behind Swindon, while Ipswich remain in the play-offs as they sit in fourth, and they will hope for better as they have another fortnight wait for their next league meeting.
Elsewhere, Belle Vue Aces jumped to sixth place after a hard fought 48-45 success over Eastbourne Eagles at Kirkmanshulme Lane.
Jason Crump, who took the track record in heat one, claimed a 15-point maximum whilst Charlie Gjedde provided excellent back-up with 12 points.
Eastbourne had Scott Nicholls in fine-form as he grabbed 17 points including a tactical win in heat 14 - which put The Eagles to within a point of the home side.
But Crump came out and secured the win which gave Belle Vue the two points for victory.
Wolverhampton remain bottom of the table despite their convincing 54-38 success over Peterborough Panthers at Monmore Green.
Wolves were led home by guest Chris Harris who grabbed 13+1, only missing out on his maximum in the final heat when Hans Andersen claimed victory, and captain Freddie Lindgren (11).
Andersen also had a good night with 13, as did his team-mate Danny King (10) but there was little else on offer for The Panthers.
Indeed Wolves were solid throughout with Freddie Lin David Howe (8+1), Nicolai Klindt (8+1) and Christian Hefenbrock (7+2) all producing the goods for the home side.
See what has got the Sky Sports experts' tongues wagging over a busy seven days in sport.
