Pedersen: Engine failure
Poole Castle Cover Pirates moved back to the top of the Sky Sports Elite league after beating a depleted Coventry 54-36 on Wednesday night.
The Pirates fought back after they conceded a 5-1 in the opening heat as Rory Schlein and Oliver Allen gave the hosts a much needed wake up call.
The Pirates levelled the match through Swedish reserves Freddie Eriksson and Daniel Davidsson in heat 2, and soon went on to open an advantage which they never looked like relinquishing.
Australian Chris Holder took a heat 10 fall and managed to return to his feet unscathed, and then skipper Bjarne Pedersen suffered engine failure at the start of 11 which ensured the Bees were still in contention going into the final few heats, trailing by just 6 points.
A 4-2 from top scorer Davey Watt and Davidsson just before a superb 5-1 from Holder and Pedersen in heat 13 gave the Pirates further breathing space.
Freddie Eriksson and Adam Skornicki then clinically put paid to any faint hopes the Bees may have had as the Poole pairing kept tactical rider Daniel King, covering for Billy Janniro, at bay to seal the win.
