Eastbourne gained an important 49-44 victory over local rivals Lakeside in Saturday's Sky Sports Elite League action.

Victory for the Eagles keeps them in the hunt for the play-offs while the Hammers were unable to overcome the absence of Leigh Lanham and in-form reserve Lobos Tomicek.

The visitors gained an advantage early on with Adam Shields (9+1) leading team-mate Jonas Davidsson to a 5-1 in Heat 3, but a mid-meeting burst from the Eagles gave them authority.

Two heat wins apiece for Lee Richardson (9) and Ed Kennett (7+1) helped get the Hammers back on terms and when Scott Nicholls (13) led Lewis Bridger to a 5-1 in the 10th the hosts were in a 10-point lead.

However, there was another twist when Andreas Jonsson (15+1) bagged victory in the next on a tactical ride, and with Ricky Kling following him home the lead was back down to three.

But that was as good as it got for the visitors, as a 4-2 in the penultimate race with Cameron Woodward leading them home wrapped up the points.
