Lakeside moved into second in the Sky Sports Elite League as Poole extended their lead at the top.

The Pirates are now four points clear at the summit, but they have ridden three more meetings than their Essex rivals - who are hot on their tails after a comfortable 56-37 victory over last season's champions Coventry.

The Bees are a shadow of the side that won everything last term and indeed they are more preoccupied with avoiding the relegation play-offs.

Lakeside dominated proceedings at the Arena-Essex Raceway with Andreas Jonsson claiming an unblemished 15-point maximum.

Captain Adam Shields was also in fine form with 11, but there were few bad performances from any of The Hammers as they came last in just three races.

In contrast Coventry could offer little resistance with British stars Chris Harris, Olly Allen and Simon Stead all producing under-par performances as they claimed four-points apiece.

Rory Schlein was by far Coventry's top-performer with 15 points - including a tactical win, whilst at reserve Ben Barker added to his burgeoning reputation with nine.

On the South Coast it was a similar story as Poole defeated Eastbourne 60-33.

Australian Chris Holder registered his second straight maximum to guide The Pirates to victory, but there was plenty of support with Davey Watt (13+1), Bjarne Pedersen and Magnus Zettersrom (7+2) all producing big scores.
