Ipswich Witches' play-off hopes have suffered a big blow after Polish star Piotr Swiderski broke his hand.

Swiderski has been in sensational form for Ipswich this term but he broke a bond in his hand whilst practising and he could now be sidelined for up to a month.

"His treatment starts on Tuesday and the hospital has said two to three weeks," team manager Pete Simmons said.

"It's a bad situation for us because Piotr has been simply outstanding for us so far this season."

With Chris Louis already sidelined, The Witches will have to use guest and rider-replacement facilities in the immediate future although Swiderski's absence could hasten the arrival of a new signing with Coventry's Rory Schlein tipped to move to Foxhall.

Ipswich currently sit in fifth in the Sky Sports Elite League - three points adrift of Eastbourne Eagles, but they have ridden four less meetings.
