Johnston: Three heat wins
A superb team performance saw Ipswich continue their push for the play-offs with a three-point victory at Eastbourne.
The Witches scored heavily throughout the side to record a 49-41 success at Arlington to take them into clear fourth place in the Elite League table with meetings in hand.
Piotr Swiderski, Rory Schlein and Steve Johnston all scored 10 points for the East Anglian side while Jarek Hampel and Tobias Kroner provided three further heat wins.
They took the lead for the first time in Heat 6 when Schlein and Johnston teamed up for a maximum after Cameron Woodward was excluded following a spill.
The Aussie made up for the error to follow Lee Richardson (12+1) home in the 10th race as the hosts levelled the scores with five heats to go, but Witches dominated the latter part of the meeting.
Eastbourne were missing talisman Scott Nicholls but although guest Adam Shields picked up 11 points prior to a spill in the final heat, the rest struggled with Ed Kennett carrying a knock.
Kroner and Swiderski re-established a four point lead for Ipswich and successive 4-2s sealed it - Swiderski heading off Richardson in the crucial Heat 13 before Johnston claimed his third victory of the night in the penultimate race, Chris Scramm filling in third place.
