Poole Pirates strengthened their position at the top of the Elite League with a 50-31 win over Belle Vue.

The Pirates were convincing winners in awful conditions in Dorset, despite the efforts of their former star Jason Crump.

The Aces rider was in magnificent form at Wimborne Road, showing his knowledge of the track as he won all four of his races.

His efforts were in vain, however, as the Manchester team faded after he had got them off to a winning start.

Heat victories for Daniel Davidsson, Bjarne Pedersen and Davey Watt put Poole into the lead before Crump's second heat win of the night got Belle Vue back to 18-12.

As the weather deteriorated, Poole put together three successive 5-1s to confirm their win.

Crump won on a tactical ride in Heat 11 to restore some respectability for the visitors and finished off the night with another win in Heat 13 to take his personal tally to 15 points.

With the rain continuing to pour down, the final two heats of the meeting were abandoned.

Pedersen (11+1) top-scored for the home side and there were strong contributions from Chris Holder and Watt, who each won two heats.

Elsewhere

Wolverhampton are now just a point adrift at the bottom of the table after securing a narrow 47-43 victory over Coventry Bees.

Danish reserve Nicolai Klindt was the star of the show for Wolves as he grabbed a brilliant 15-point haul.

Indeed it was almost a three-man team for Wolves with Freddie Lindgren (13) and Niels-Kristian Iversen (11) bagging double figure scores.

Coventry were again led well by new signing Hans Andersen (12+1) and captain Chris Harris (11) but the support was not strong enough to secure a much needed away win.
