Elite League leaders Poole Pirates suffered a shock defeat in front of the Sky cameras at Peterborough, going down 47-43 at the East of England Showground.
Peterborough have endured a miserable season, but led by Karol Zabik (11+2) they secured a morale-boosting success.
The hosts led by 12 points after Heat 9 and appeared to be cruising to victory, but Poole showed their class with successive 5-1s, led by Bjarne Pedersen and Magnus Zetterstrom.
Chris Holder then took the chequered flag in Heat 13 to cut the deficit to just two points and give the Pirates hope of stealing the victory in the final two races.
However, Henning Bager won a thrilling 14th heat and led in team-mate Zabik for a fifth Peterborough one-two of the night to secure the win with one heat remaining.
Bager (10) began his night by winning the third heat to put Peterborough into the lead for the first time.
Zetterstrom (10) won three of his five races for the league leaders, while Chris Holder (11+1) also hit double figures.
The other meeting on Monday saw Belle Vue Aces claim a 49-41 victory over Wolverhampton.
The Manchester outfit proved just too stong with Charlie Gjedde (14+1) and Jason Crump both in fine form for the home side.
Premier League guests Jason Lyons (8+2), Kevin Doolan (7+1) and Simon Lambert (5) also played their part.
Wolves were again without the injured Niels Kristian Iversen and they just did not have enough top-order power to match The Aces.
Captain Freddie Lindgren top-scored with 13 points with Morten Risager (8), Jesper B Monberg (7+2) and Nicolai Klindt (7+1) all providing good back-up.
See what has got the Sky Sports experts' tongues wagging over a busy seven days in sport.
