England's Under-23s won the first of three test matches against Australia with a 48-43 victory at Wolverhampton.

Eastbourne's Ed Kennett led home the young Lions with 11+1 whilst Wolves asset Tai Woffinden did well with 9.

All of the young Aussies ride in Britain and as expected pushed close with Cameron Woodward and Troy Batchelor both scoring 12.

But England's middle-order proved too strong with James Wright (7+1), Ben Barker (7+1) and Lewis Bridger (6) all scoring well, whilst for Australia their was little else in support of their top-two with the exception of Redcar's Ty Proctor who scored seven.

The next test is at Swindon on Thursday before the final match-up at Somerset on Friday.
