Peterborough Panthers have re-signed Polish star Karol Zabik just 24 hours after they axed him.

The Panthers sacked recent recruit Zabik over the weekend after he declared his intention to return to parent club Poole Pirates next season.

Peterborough reacted furiously to Zabik's comments but they have now reinstated him after talks over his future and they have also confirmed he has signed for them in the 2009 season.

"With such an exciting young prospect as Karol, as team manager I was loathe to let him go," said boss Trevor Swales.

"I have spoken with Karol at great length over the weekend and after having a meeting with him this morning after his arrival in the UK from Poland, all parties concerned agreed to put the past 48 hours behind us and move forward. Karol has agreed to complete Peterborough's fixtures for the 2008 season.

"We offered Karol a team place for the 2009 season which he has accepted and signed a contract with us."

Zabik added: "I am thrilled to be given the opportunity to complete the remainder of the season with the Panthers. It was never my intention to manipulate my average.

"I am very happy with Peterborough Speedway and would like to pledge my future in Britain with the Panthers. I hope that the fans will understand as I have said to Trevor, I want to ride for Peterborough in 2009 and become a much better rider for the club next year."
