Poland have won the World Under-21 crown after claiming a shock victory in Denmark.

The home nation were much fancied to carry off the title as their senior side did in July but they were upstaged by young Poles in Vojens.

Denmark's Patrick Hougaard was the star of the meeting as he claimed four wins on the way to 16 points - but that was not enough.

Poland claimed 40 points which was just one point ahead of Denmark and two in-front of Sweden, whilst Australia ended on 33.

The Poles' top-scorer was Maciej Janowski with 11 but it was an all-around good performance from Poland as Artur Mrockzka (9), Grzegorz Zengota (8), Michal Mitko (7) and Daniel Pytel (5) all scored well.

Despite coming in fifth - Australia's number one Chris Holder scored an excellent 16 but to no avail.
